Women’s Purchasing Power

Women’s purchasing power is the greatest economic force at work in the American economy. Women traditionally have done most of the household shopping, but also do a great amount of purchasing for business, whether it relates to healthcare, insurance, office supplies, business trips, restaurants, entertainment, etc. In addition, women are becoming more important in the global marketplace, not just as consumers, but also as workers, entrepreneurs, managers, and investors. Studies suggest that women make up to 80% of consumer’s buying decisions-from homes and cars to entertainment and food.

They can be a potent force in the marketplace by using their purchasing power to change the ways companies hire, train, and advance women and also to promote and patronize companies that promulgate and implement policies that have a women friendly and family friendly culture.

Certainly there is still a major gap between women’s purchasing power and their under representation in boardrooms and executive positions, but the good news is that women can leverage their purchasing power to promote companies that have women friendly policies, as well as other policies in line with their values.

Circle Alliance will gather information on companies with such policies and will post them here for your information and use. Please forward us any companies that you would like to see on this list!

Let’s start now by using that purchasing power on the companies that are in line with our values.
