Speak Up

Erin’s Business Tip Of The Week

Speak up and use your voice.

Speak like you want people to listen. Your voice can improve or damage your credibility. A sweet, small, thin voice exudes insecurity and weakens your message, work it lower if that is your natural voice. If you only speak in a sweet, small, thin voice when you are nervous it’s time to practice speaking up and using your voice. By strengthening your language skills you will improve business communication. With stronger language skills, your confidence grows to say and do things you would have feared or dreaded before. When you have strong language skills you strengthen the impact of your message and contribution, you facilitate growth and influence. In addition to your voice, your vocabulary, grammar, pace, and gesticulations play major roles in the impact of your message. Furthermore, your language skills convey messages about you. Improve your language skills and create impact and credibility.

Erin’s Business Tip Of The Week

Increase Your Vocabulary.

It will enable you to get your thoughts and ideas across more effectively and to understand others’ ideas better. Building your vocabulary is a profitable investment of both your time and effort. Language is power and being able to convey your thoughts efficiently and effectively with the most precise words enhances that power. Next time you come across a word that eludes you, write it down, get familiar with its use(s), and start incorporating those words into your speech and correspondence. A great way to increase your vocabulary is by reading. Read more books, magazines, newspapers, and journals, especially anything related to your industry and field. You can also subscribe to word-of-the-day emails from the myriad of online dictionary sites. Here’s a start: cogency, deliquesce, efficacious, endogenous, farrago, intercalate, loquacity, rodomontade, sedulous, turbid.
