Use Your Time Efficiently

Erin’s Business Tip Of The Week

Make Efficient Use of Your Time During Meeting Delays.
To make the most efficient use of your time during a delay in the start time of a meeting, make a quick call or send an email that must be done to move a project forward. Emails are generally better, then you won’t get stuck on the phone causing further delay to the original meeting time. That delay time is valuable and can be used to quickly complete an action item for a project. Don’t think of the delay as a waste of time or down time, use it as an opportunity get something else done.

Network Everyday

Erin’s Business Tip Of The Week

Contact at least one person in your network everyday during the week. Ask them questions about their company, business, department, special projects, upcoming events, etc. Keep brief notes about each person in your network regarding dates of contact, conversation topics and common connections each time you contact someone. Always make a reference back to the last contact or a common connection when you do contact them and keep the door open for future contact. Be sure to send a congratulatory email to anyone in your network who receives a promotion, new position, etc., and send a message to your network each time you receive the same. The idea here is to keep on your network’s radar screen, so when a business opportunity arises, you are easily called to mind.

Build On Your Strengths

Erin’s Business Tip Of The Week

We cannot all be good at everything. One of the keys to your business success is to become great at what you are already good at. Become an expert in your field or certain specific aspects of your field. Take classes, seminars, or workshops to learn even more about your field and industry and to hone your skills. Network with other business associates with similar strengths and interests. When you meet other people who share similar strengths and skill sets, you build on each other’s knowledge and experience. Take on more projects that will give you an opportunity to use and build on the skills and strengths in which you already excel. Become great at what you are good at and become an expert at what you are great at!
